INSPIRATIONAL CITY

Bristol is the home of the creatives. Whether your passion is film, music, or art, the city will let your talent grow and develop. Within this ever expanding community of visionaries you will always find new opportunities to get involved and become part of Bristol's art scene.

WHERE CAN I LIVE?

By far the majority of Screenology students choose to live in a shared house right from their first year. Private Student Halls (i.e those not owned or operated by one of the city’s big unis UoB or UWE) are becoming scare and so Screenology students more often than not find a shared house both a more cost effective and enjoyable experience. The Screenology team are on hand to help take some of the stress out of finding somewhere to live. In general Bristol caters brilliantly to its huge student population so you can rest assured that you will find something that fits your needs.

Where to Start?

As with many things in life it all starts with knowing what your budget is. After all, you don’t want to get your heart set on the perfect place in perfect location only to do the sums and realise it’s not going to work for you. Use this handy budget calcualtor to help set a budget as to what you can comfortably spend on your accommodation costs.

LOWDOWN ON HOUSE AND FLAT SHARING

Whether you are looking to band together with some fellow students or are just looking for a single room within an existing shared house - here is some useful things to know.

• House sharing options are usually cheaper than private halls.

  • Living in a house is usually a lot quieter than halls because you are living with only a few fellow students rather than a block of 50 or more.

Shared House Benefits:

Get a full experience of independent living.

Be prepared for life after uni…

Living with a group of good mates can be a lot of fun! (House parties, movie nights).

You can find a house to suit your budget.

Cheaper than private student halls.

You can better choose an area of the city that appeals to you.

Things to be Aware of:

You might prefer a house where the rent with bills included, this way you won't have to worry about organising suppliers for utilities, internet etc. and then splitting the bills each month between housemates. However, this isn't always the best deal and might work out cheaper for you organise bills yourself.

Some landlords can be difficult or unreliable. Sometimes the accommodation they are offering can be poor value for money. Clue yourself up on the top student housing problems and make informed choices.

*IMPORTANT INFO - Guarantor*

Most landlords will ask you for details of a guarantor as part of your rental agreement. A guarantor is someone who guarantees to cover your rent if you don’t make the payments. If you don’t have someone who can do this for you, you can use a company such as https://housinghand.co.uk/ to act as your guarantor.
